There is something in us that resonates with stories of overcoming difficulties or personal or moral failure to return triumphant. Redemption stories are so powerful because they give us hope that life can be different, things can makes sense, our struggles will resolve. They give us hope for satisfaction, contentment, and peace.

This week one of our friends graduated from a short term treatment program and moved on to a longer term one. The stories our friend has of what they have suffered are horrifying and heartbreaking. Few would have given our friend any hope of change, yet they already look years younger and full of life. Despite all they had been through our friend never completely quit fighting.
